15 weeks!
Wow! I can’t believe that today marks 15 weeks of this preggers journey! BabyCenter says that our little nut is about the size of an apple today. That’s pretty amazing to me as I look down at my belly thinking, I can’t believe there’s something in there the size of an apple! I really don’t have that big of a bump yet; must be a small apple :) Another book I have says that the nut is the size of a navel orange. There’s no way my nut is the size of an orange– but all of this fruit talk is making me hungry for an ambrosia salad!
Now that I’m cruising in my 2nd trimester, I thought I’d share some thoughts of my 1st trimester…. a word of warning– especially for my readers who haven’t yet experienced this wonderful journey, what I’m about to tell you is the honest truth of what could possibly happen to you! :)
First (and this is a big one!)– Morning sickness happens not just in the morning. If that were really the case, that would’ve been a dream for me! I’ve been dealing with this 24/7. That’s right. No exaggeration (and I’ve been known to do that!). I’ll spare you the disgusting details– just know that there’s been some really gross moments. I got all sorts of advice on how to deal with this and tried it all. But what really worked for me is trying to keep my tummy full (of what I could keep in my tummy), snacking on green apples, saltine crackers, no fatty/greasy foods, and eating crystallized ginger. This has been the most exhausting and frustrating part of being preggers– but I’ve had a really awesome support team to help me deal with all of this. Special shout out to hubby for always being there to hold my hair back! Wuv!
The good news is that I think (and I don’t want to jinx myself!) I’m really turning the corner on this. I’m really starting to feel much better. I’ve felt like I have had more energy this week, and I feel like I want to venture out of the house more and more. I still have some moments where the heaves and nausea sneak up on me, but I can deal with that.
I also know that I’m starting to feel better because I’m starting to crave certain food items. For example, I was at the grocery store yesterday, in the ice-cream aisle, and pretty much wanted to eat all the ice-cream. I even considered opening up a box of fudge pops right then and there. This is funny to me because I’ve never really been an ice-cream person, but now I am! I also have big cravings for chocolate, cupcakes, and cookies. Guess the nut has a bit of a sweet tooth?! :)
Another funny thing that has happened to me is that my meandering mind is WAY out of control! I have become soooo scattered in my thoughts and I’ll totally forget things. Yesterday I drove past my house on my way home from getting my hair cut. Who does that?! I think I was so consumed by my thoughts that I forgot what I was doing! At least I realized what I did right away! And, don’t even think about giving me a list of things to do and think I’ll remember it. I won’t. Everything must be written down. I never used to be like this. I’ve also been known to be hunting for my shoes, car keys, and purse. Maybe I need to write myself a note on where I put these things down. Am I losing my mind?
I’m also discovering the wonderful world of pregnant lady clothes. I had a sad moment last week when I tried on my favorite Lucky Jeans and I couldn’t button the top button. Yes, I really cried about it (people, emotions are very high right now!). I’ve officially had to make the switch to maternity jeans and I have to say they are really comfortable! I never thought I’d be so happy with an elastic waist. But I am– and proud of it! No more zippers or buttons jamming themselves into my tummy. Elastic jeans rock!
By far, the best thing that I’ve discovered in this wonderful, wild, crazy world of being preggers is despite some of the gross things I’ve been through, I wouldn’t change a single minute of it. Crazy, huh?! I know that in a blink of an eye our little nut will be here and my days of being preggers will be over. I try to soak in all these moments; especially the great ones like day dreaming about the nut, or when hubby and I talk to the nut or when hubby kisses my tummy every night before bed. That’s when I just want to freeze time and take a picture. Oh no! I’m starting to get teary thinking about it… off to find some kleenex!
Next week we have our 3rd prenatal appointment. I’m excited to hear the nut’s heartbeat and maybe I’ll have another pic for ya!

Above you’ll see a couple pics that were taken today of our adorable little nut (that’s our nickname right now for the baby)… Feel free to ohhhh and ahhh….. Doesn’t the pic on top look like the nut is sucking his or her thumb???
Stay tuned… :)

I thought I’d share this funny experience I had this morning…. Hubby has a wit bit of a cold and requested that I go and get him some Tylenol Cold medicine at our drugstore. So off I went. I found the formula he wanted, went up to the check out counter, put the medicine on the counter to pay for it and…WAIT, WAIT (this is so funny!)….. the check out lady asked me if I was old enough to buy this medicine! What?!?! This was so funny to me!
Now, WAY back in those college days this used to happen to me all the time. Getting carded to make sure I was indeed old enough to drink. And I used to get so irritated about it. Well, I guess now that I’m in my 30s, if the check out lady thinks that I don’t look old enough to buy cold medication (younger than 18), I’ll take it!
I happily showed her my id. And then I told her that she made my day. I never thought I would be so pleased that someone would think I looked soooo young. Ahhh, the little things!

Remember how I said I felt like I was getting my knitting mojo back? I was wrong. The knitting gods have played an evil trick on me.
I’ve made such a rookie sock knitting mistake. Check out the heel on my green sock… anything look strange to you????? Do you see that gigantic heel and gusset? That’s the problem.
I’m so having to walk away from this mess. Ugh. I am so annoyed with myself over the look of this crazy large heel and gusset!!! What was I thinking?! Clearly I wasn’t. And why oh why didn’t I see this as I was making it?! I got a little carried away making the heel and didn’t realize that I knitted it over twice the size it should be. I can’t believe I didn’t measure this. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Seriously, this is probably what the size of a giants heel looks like. And… to top it all off I’ve knitted almost down to the toe decreases. This translates to I was almost done knitting this sock. I didn’t see this gigantic error until I was trying on my sock to see how much further I needed to knit down to the toe. I’m just not sure what to do at this point; should I frog it ALL THE WAY back to the heel and fix to my liking? Dude, I’m not so sure I have the guts to do that!
So much time and energy making this giant heel sock. I guess I’ll never make this mistake again. Man, some lessons are so tough! Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

Yay, yay, I received my summer swap package today! :) This summer I participated in the Summer Caffeine Addict Swap on ravelry and man, oh man was it fun! My buddy really delivered the goods. She went WAY above and beyond in the yarn department. Here’s what I saw when I opened the box:
- 7 skeins of Debbie Bliss cashmerino astrakhan (yes, 7!)
- 5 skeins of elsebeth lavold Angora
- an assortment of tea, including Mayan Cocoa Spice Yogi Tea and a bunch of Bigelow teas
- stitch markers, yummy minty smelling soap (can’t wait to try this), and two adorable handmade knitted items (she knitted a soap pocket, and a matching dishcloth).
WOW! What a swap box! Now I need to figure out what to do with all of this yarn! Thank you very much Barbara for making my second caffeine swap so much fun! :)

So I’m participating in the ravelry caffeine addict summer swap and part of the rules this time was to knit up a small item for your swap pal. I made her a horseshoe cable coffee sleeve and a cute coffee cup dishcloth. Fun, fast, quick knits. This is exactly what I needed to do to help me get my knitting mojo back on track. I’ve kind of been in a lull since the end of May trying to motivate to finish my pair of green socks. I think I’ll jump back into that project tonight while watching the Olympics! Wish me luck!

Sapphireberry
Spanish Bluebell
This is one of those things that’s better to see in person. Trying to take a pic of this is a bit of a challenge. What you’re looking at above is two pics of two different blue paints. Trust me.
As you know, we’re busy giving the kitchen a makeover. The old kitchen color on the walls was in desperate need of updating. So hubby and I both agreed that we wanted to paint the kitchen blue to go along with our Cottage Living theme. We took a trip to Home Depot and probably after an hour discussion, talking about all of the different hues and tones of blue, we decided the color on the walls was going to be…Sapphireberry. We were very excited to get home and put it on the walls. Two coats and 24 hours later, there was a bit of mixed emotions on what we thought was our perfect blue. Hubby hated it. To quote him, he said, “this looks like something you would put in a kids room. Too baby/sky blue.” Me, on the other hand, I didn’t think it looked bad at all. I loved the pop it had against our newly made over white kitchen cabinets.
But after what seemed liked a days worth of discussion, we decided that because of our open floor plan, color scheme for downstairs, and the foyer tile, we needed a blue with a gray undertone. Sapphireberry had a yellow tone to it. So back to Home Depot we went. Carefully examining and discussing all of the blues with gray tones, we decided the the new choice was going to be… Spanish Bluebell.
Hubby put the paint on the walls, we waited, and much to both of our delight, we LOVED it!!! I must say, he was right on this. All of those art classes he took and hours of discussion over the color wheel paid off and we found our perfect kitchen blue. Yay!!!! Thank you also to Ralph Lauren for creating Spanish Bluebell. I’m so glad we found you. And, I’m really glad that we didn’t have to talk anymore about blue. Like, I’m pretty sure my readers are about done reading this lengthy tale about blue paint in my kitchen!
Who knew I could go on like this over blue?!
Stay tuned for pics of our finished kitchen cabinets. What a labor of love this project has been! I think we are on week 4 of this?! We still need to put the shelves back in, attach draw pulls, and attach door hardware.
